Christmas Caroling

Last week, we spent an evening Christmas caroling with our homeschool group. I think this is one of my favorite Christmas-time activities. My children and I all love to sing. Whether or not we all sing well, we most definitely make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

To start the evening, we all met together and warmed up by singing The Twelve Days of Homeschool. My favorite verse is the 5th day, which goes "On the fifth day of homeschool, my neighbor said to me, 'You are so strange!'" I am positive that most people think that about me most of the time, not just because I homeschool.

Next up was the actual caroling. We visited the condos that are next to the church where our homeschool group meets. It was wonderful to have so many families from our group go out. We had so many children with us, ranging from Sassy Pants's age to teenagers. They were all so well-behaved and were really a blessing, not only to the people in the condos where we were caroling, but also to me.
We sang traditional Christmas carols, the ones that remind everyone of what Christmas is about - the birth of our Savior. Singing songs like Joy to the World, Silent Night, and O Little Town of Bethlehem always help me to remember that this season isn't about the rushing around trying to get everything done and all the Christmas hustle and bustle. It's about the fact that God loved me so much that He sent His Son to be born as a baby, grow up living a perfect life, and offer His life as a sacrifice for my sins.

After caroling, we went back to the church for hot cocoa, cider, and goodies. While the caroling is my favorite part, I think my children love this part so much more.
We're already looking forward to next year's caroling night. Caroling is so much more fun when we can go out with friends and spend a fun evening spreading Christmas cheer.
