Coffee Filter Butterflies

The other day we made coffee filter butterflies. This was a simple but fun craft that kept the small people entertained for quite a while.

Supplies:
Coffee filters
Pipe cleaners
Washable markers
Spray bottle

Instructions:
1. Fold the coffee filter in half. Use the markers to decorate the filter. They'll need to press down so that the color goes through both halves of the filter. Bold lines or dots work well.
2. Using the spray bottle, spritz the filter with a little water. (Don't use too much or all of the color will run off of the filter.) You can do this with the filter still folded, or you can unfold it. I recommend putting a paper plate under the filter to catch the colored water so it doesn't stain your table.

3. If you sprayed the filter folded, unfold it. Let it sit to dry.

4. Once the filters are dry, wrap a pipe cleaner around the center, using the ends to form antennae. (I'm not sure why Sassy Pants was wearing a bike helmet, especially since it isn't hers.)
