Not Lyin' about Lions

Thank you for visiting me during the A to Z Challenge! I hope you'll join me throughout the month of April. I'll be exploring animal crafts with Sassy Pants for each letter of the alphabet. Not only that, but I'll be sharing with you some interesting facts about each animal. (Just to showcase what a nerdy homeschooling mama I am. LOL)

L is for Lion

The lion is known as the King of the Forest. I've never understood that because lions don't live in the forest; they live on the savanna. Either way, these are some powerful, regal cats.

Here are some interesting facts about lions:

  • A male lion's mane protects it when it fights.
  • Lions can run up to 50 mph for short distances. (As long as whatever vehicle I am in can get to 50+ quickly, I think I could handle a safari.)
  • A lion's roar can be heard up to 5 miles away. (I think I've heard some temper tantrums that could rival that.)
  • Lions were once found throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia. They are now only found in Africa and in one national park in India that was created just to protect that Asiatic species.
  • A lion's heels don't touch the ground when it walks.
  • Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day. (I think I could handle that this week while we're on spring break.)
Paper Plate Lion
Supplies:
Paper plate
Yellow & orange construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Crayons or markers

Cut construction paper into strips.
Yes, that is a pop tart. She decided to snack while making her lion.

Glue strips around the outside of the paper plate.

Using crayons or markers, add a face.

You could also cut out holes for the eyes and make it a mask.
