The Boy's Philmont Experience

A couple of weeks ago, The Boy left on the adventure of a lifetime - 2 weeks backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch. I have to admit that I was a nervous mama, sending my boy off halfway across the country with strangers. (Well, not exactly strangers; it was with his Boy Scout troop, but it wasn't family.)

They flew out from NC on a Sunday evening, arriving in Denver in time to get to the hotel and get some sleep. The next day they headed down to New Mexico, stopping at the Air Force Academy and the Garden of the Gods along the way. They spent that night in Cimarron, New Mexico, which is just north of Philmont.

The Boy thoroughly enjoyed his time at Philmont. In addition to hiking a total of 70+ miles, there were activities at many of the campsites for him to participate in. He went mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing. He also did cowboy shooting with a double barrel shotgun, .22 rifle, and peacemaker revolver.

One of the dads that went on the trip took pictures and was kind enough to share them with me. So now I can share them here. haha You'll notice that The Boy wore the same shirt in most of the pictures (the navy USA shirt). Miraculously, I was able to get it clean when he got home.
