Life is not always easy. Or fun.
I used to struggle with depression. I could get into a funk and stay there for days. Sadly, that didn't help my situation, and it made me a terrible wife and mom. So I'm learning to change my focus when things get tough.
One of my favorite hymns at church says, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand."
(And, yes, we do still sing hymns at my church. We have a great mix of hymns and praise songs. I think it's important to keep the hymns in our services. There is so much truth to be found in them.)
Just like the hymn says, my hope is in Jesus. I absolutely love this verse in Jeremiah:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the ,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
What a wonderful reminder that God has plans for me - good plans, plans for peace, plans for hope. When things start to spin out of control, it's nice to remember that God has everything under control.
