Memoria Press 7th Grade Literature Guide Set Review

I believe that there is so much one can learn from reading good literature. I have loved having Soccer Girl and Ballerina use the Seventh Grade Literature Guide Set from Memoria Press to explore great novels like Anne of Green Gables and The Bronze Bow.

D.E.A.R. Monday - March 28

We are taking our Spring Break this week, so hopefully I will have plenty of time to Drop Everything And Read.

Menu Plan - Week of March 27

Since this is Spring Break for the local schools, we are also taking a spring break. With The Boy and Soccer Girl playing soccer for the local high school, it's just easier to stay on their schedule. It also means that there are no soccer games or practices in the evenings this week, so it will be easier for me to plan meals. It's really difficult to plan dinners during soccer season, especially on game nights when they have to be at the school at 3:30 or 4 and aren't home until after 9.

Here's what's on the menu for this week:

FishFlix.com and Agenda 2 Review

We enjoy watching movies at our house, but it's important to me that we have access to good quality movies. I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to watch Agenda 2: Masters of Deceit from FishFlix.com.

I absolutely love that I have girls who love to read. My concern comes in finding books that are both interesting and age-appropriate.

I was excited to have the opportunity to review the Glimmer Girls series - a 2-book series for 9 to 12 year olds written by award-winning singer Natalie Grant.

About Glimmer Girls:
Readers will join twins Mia and Maddie, and their little sister, Lulu, as they travel the country finding adventure, mystery, and mischief along the way.  Together with their father, famous mother, singer Gloria Glimmer, and their slightly wacky nanny, Miss Julia, the smart and sassy sisters learn lessons about being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole lot more.

Grant says:  "Glimmer Girls is a fiction series that I have created with my daughters.  The storyline is about three girls who go on tour with their singing mom.  I have no idea where I came up with that plot!  It’s fun for my little girls to help with the content because they actually live that life.  Glimmer is the last name of the family, but it also has a special meaning.  It is a light that is never extinguished.  Sometimes it may glimmer a little bit brighter, sometimes it may glimmer a little bit dimmer, but it never goes out.  I felt like that was such a perfect description for all of us.  We all have a light on the inside and depending on the day, sometimes it’s bright and sometimes it’s dim.  That is the message I wanted girls to get from this book.  You don’t always have to be shining bright, some days are going to be more difficult than others, but Jesus has put a light in you that will never go out.”

My Thoughts:
I love that these books are completely appropriate for my pre-teen girls to read. They have a foundation of Christ behind their authorship, which translates into the stories.

Little Red was very excited when she discovered that the books are written by one of her favorite Christian singers, Natalie Grant.

Little Red - I like these books because they aren't just about glimmer stuff. They do detective stuff sometimes too. These books encourage me to be a better Christian.

D.E.A.R. Monday - March 21

I apologize for not posting Drop Everything And Read last week. Time change had me all kinds of crazy.

Now that my body time clock has almost become normal again, I have time to Drop Everything And Read.

(This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting this blog and our homeschool by using these links. For more information, see my disclosure policy.)

What I've Finished Reading:
  • A Reluctant Bride by Kathleen Fuller - This Amish of Birch Creek Novel drew me in from the beginning. I loved that this book explored a darker side of Amish life. ●●●●●
  • Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica - Another book that had me captivated. Pretty Baby is written from the points of view of each of the main characters. Each chapter is told from a different character's point of view which gives a unique perspective throughout the book. There was some description of sexual abuse, so this isn't a book I would let my children read, but it was a very engaging book. ●●●

Demme Learning Review

Over the past several years, I have spent untold hours (days, weeks, months) trying to find a math curriculum that will best work for my twins. Like most people, I consider math to be one of the key subjects that one must learn to be successful in life, so it's important to me that I provide my girls with the best math background that I can. I'm very excited that my girls are loving Demme Learning's Math-U-See Pre-Algebra and their new Digital Packs.

Grapevine Studies Review

I've mentioned often that one of the reasons why we homeschool is because it is important to me that my children receive a strong Bible education. In addition to encouraging my children to have a private devotional time each morning, I also set aside a portion of our school day for us to study the Bible together. Having a good Bible curriculum for that time is essential. For the past few weeks, we've been using Resurrection - Multi-Level Bible study from Grapevine Studies.

D.E.A.R. Monday - March 7

Has March come in like a lion where you are? It sure has here! In fact, I sat through 2 of my children's soccer games in the pouring rain on Thursday of last week. Oh, the things we do for our children!

With the crazy March weather, there's always a good time to Drop Everything And Read.

Zonderkidz Faith Builders Bible Review

One of the many reasons that our family homeschools is so that my children will have a strong foundation in their Bible knowledge. In addition to Bible curriculum that we spend time working on together, I encourage them to spend individual time each morning before school reading their Bibles. Sassy was so excited to use the Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz for her morning devotion time.
