Zonderkidz The Beginner's Bible Review

I believe in the importance of learning the great history in the Bible at a young age. The Beginner's Bible from Zonderkidz is a great way of introducing young children to these Bible stories.

For this review, we received The Beginner's Bible, a 512-page, hard-cover book with color illustrations.

The Beginner's Bible has been around for a while - 25 years, to be exact. In fact, both Little Red and Sassy used it as part of their reading curriculum in first grade. To celebrate its anniversary edition, Zonderkidz has updated the book this year with new 3D artwork illustrations. These illustrations are ah-mazing! The previous edition that Little Red and Sassy used has illustrations that are "flat," but the illustrations in this new edition are bright and vibrant and seem to come off the page. These are just a couple of examples of the incredible artwork throughout this book.

The Beginner's Bible contains over 90 Bible stories - 47 from the Old Testament and 46 from the New Testament. These stories include the stories that form the basis of the Christian faith:
  • The Beginning - about the Creation of the world
  • The Sneaky Snake - about the Fall of man in the Garden of Eden
  • Noah's Ark
  • The Tall Tower - about the Tower of Babel, the confusing of languages, and the scattering of man around the earth
  • David and Goliath
  • Daniel and the Lions
  • Jonah and the Big Fish
  • Baby Jesus Is Born
  • Jesus' First Miracle
  • Jesus Walks on Water
  • Jesus Is Arrested and Crucified
  • Jesus Is Risen!
  • The First Church
  • Jesus Is Coming!
I mentioned earlier that both Little Red and Sassy used The Beginner's Bible for reading in the first grade. It's a great first reader! Each story is only a few pages long with most only being 4 or 5 pages, and there are illustrations on every page. Did I mention how incredible these new illustrations are? I really do think these are incredible and will definitely draw a small child's interest. Also, if your child isn't ready to read yet, The Beginner's Bible is great for reading aloud with him or her. Sometimes I miss those days of snuggling up with my small ones to read a good book that had interesting pictures to keep their interest while I read.

Since my children are older and beyond the need for a beginning Bible, you might be wondering why I'm reviewing this one. First of all, I think it's something that you all would like. Second, I have the cutest, almost 4 year old niece on the planet. This book is something that I know she will love, so it's one of her birthday presents. (Shh, don't tell her!) She loves books and loves going to church and learning about Jesus. I know that her parents are also teaching her that the stories in the Bible are more than just stories, too.
