It's a Juggling Act

**For those of you joining me from the A to Z challenge, welcome! I'm homeschooling through the alphabet.**

Homeschooling multiple children isn't easy. You have to make sure you spend the right amount of time teaching each one the necessary subjects.

J is for Juggling

Sometimes homeschooling feels more like a juggling act than teaching. I'm trying to keep all the balls in the air. Some days I'm successful, but there are many days when one (or sometimes ALL) of the balls come crashing down around me.

I've found that the best thing to do when I drop a ball (or two or ten) is to stop for a minute to collect my thoughts. Otherwise it's really easy for me to become overwhelmed, stressed out, and not fun to be around.

How do you handle juggling many things during your daily life?

  1. Humor. I like to get silly and recruit others in my antics. Laughter is the best thing to counter act the stresses in life.

    1. Humor and laughter are a great way to counter act the many things life hands us.

  2. With two homeschool grads in college & my 'baby' on his way to join his brother & sister in the Fall I have to say, I miss the hum of a busy house with science and art projects all over the place. It's seems wild in the moment but it's truly magical for moms who want to homeschool their kids!

    1. Kate,
You're right, at the moment it's chaotic, but I wouldn't trade these times for anything. I can't imagine how much I'll miss it when it's over.

  3. I wrote about juggling today too! Although it was juggling work rather than homeschooling. I only have one child, so she doesn't have to compete with other kids. But since I work from home, I have to figure out how to give her enough time as well as getting my work done.

    1. Rinelle,
Being a mom is a juggling act, no matter how many children, especially if you're trying to work as well.

  5. Hi, it is Suzanne who is thinking of moving to SC for retirement. Thanks for your comment. My hubby and I will be spending about 10 days or more looking over your state at the end of June, beginning of July. I can hardly wait.
    Is homeschooling popular in SC?

    1. Are you looking at any particular places in SC? We've got everything from the foothills of the Appalachian Mtns. to the beautiful beaches.

Homeschooling is becoming more popular each year.

  6. Oh, this is funny you have chosen 'juggling act' as your 'j' word. Be sure to stop by my blog today:) How do I juggle? I just dive in and do the best you can . . . or simply laugh.

    1. Sharon,
Sometimes laughing is the only way to get through those juggling times.

  7. How do you handle your kids when you need that moment of collection while teaching them? Do you give them a five-minute break?

    1. John,
There have been times that I've told them all to go to their rooms (or just another room) while I take a 5 minute time out.

  8. Phew, I bet! With five kids, you have to be constantly juggling.

I have to juggle at lot at work, and sometimes, I just have to step outside for a while. The higher my stress level goes, the more important it is for me to find time to take a break!

  9. Absolutely agree, TaMara. As a fellow homeschooler I can relate to the juggling act. And computers tend to add to the stress. Here I thought technology was supposed to free us up. Don't think it is working that way for me. It is just another thing to juggle. Lots of jugglers out there on 'J' day. I liked how you gave it another angle and one we who homeschoolers are all nodding our heads to. God bless, Maria at Delight Directed Living

  10. LOL! Yup. Home Schooling here too, and doing way too much above and beyond. Just keeping a somewhat clean house around multiple curriculums is enough to blow you under. BUT, thankfully the sum total of their learning isn't based on any single day--it's a cumulative of time and effort. It's amazing how far they grow in such a short time. =) Wishing you much success with your juggle.
