Using the Library

**For those of you joining me from the A to Z Challenge, welcome! I'm homeschooling through the alphabet.**

The other day I shared about how pivotal books are in homeschooling. Bookstores, real world and on-line, are a great source, but one of the most important places to find books is the library.

L is for Library

The library is one of my favorite places ever! How can you not love a place with an unlimited number of books to read - for free! (Well, almost free. Unfortunately, I tend to have overdue fines often.)

One of the best features of our library is the interlibrary loan program. If our local library doesn't have a book I want or need, I can request the book from the other libraries which participate in the SC Lends program, and they send it to our library. All I have to do is show up at the desk with my library card and pick it up. It can't get any more convenient that that. Well, actually, they could deliver them straight to my house, but that would be asking a bit much, right?

How often do you use your local library?

  1. Our library has interlibrary loans too, which are really handy. It also has a book club once a month, that my daughter loves to go to! Libraries are great.

  2. Hello, TaMara! I LOVE libraries, too!! I was always so excited to go to the library and check out piles of books when I was a kid, and I still get that excitement, today. I love browsing those packed shelves of wonderful books! I remember when my schools got the interlibrary loan system. It was awesome for getting research books for writing papers.

  3. I loved the library when I was a kid. Now, it's a drive downtown (great library, just a hassle to get to. And you have to pay for parking...), so I don't do it anymore. I should, though.

  4. I loved the library when the kids were little, it was a big destination many times. I also used it a lot the year and a half I homeschooled. I don't get there much anymore because I've met so many author friends online and have their books on my Kindle...
I love what you said about little ones and wood floors. Reminded me of the days the boys would run towards the bathroom to throw up and make it just far enough...to the area rug...sigh. I'm glad to be beyond the bodily fluid stage. Mine are 13 and 16 now. Much more complicated, but less vomit ;-)

  5. Library was a popular choice for L!

We live in a small town and our library isn't the greatest. (And it's on the edge of the bad side of town, so I wouldn't go there after dark, either.) I've visited a lot of libraries over the years as an author and really appreciate them for that aspect.

  6. A good library is definitely a treasure. The only one in my town is a little disappointing. :( It makes me miss my favourite library back home.

    Have fun with a-z. :)

  7. I haven't been in a library in forever, which is a shame, because I really do love them! When I was a nanny, that was a regular outing for us. We would pick out books, as well as do a lot of activities in the libary. I just love being in that atmosphere. I need to make a visit to mine, just because :)
