Tech-free Tuesday

Beginning today, we are implementing Tech-free Tuesdays at our house. From 7am-7pm, no technology-driven devices are to be used, unless it's for school purposes during the school year.

This means:
  • no television
  • no cell phones (unless absolutely necessary)
  • no computer
  • no wii
  • no mp3 players
As you can probably imagine, the small people weren't overjoyed with this new idea. However, I knew that I had been spending wasting too much time on the computer lately, and this is definitely not what I want to be modeling for my children.

Here are some of the things we can do during our tech-free time:
  • go bike riding
  • play outside
  • play board games
  • read books
  • go bowling
  • go to the pool
  • do crafts
  • cook together
I'd love to hear your ideas for things to do that are tech-free! (Of course, I won't see them until after 7pm here. Ha ha!)

  1. Great idea, and great lists! My husband and son would not be happy with a Tech-free day, but it's got my wheels turning regardless... Hmmm... Can your next list post be "10 ways to break it to them gently about Tech-Free Tuesday"?? ;)

  2. Really love this idea! I think it would benefit my whole family. I may try to implement something similar! I'm in Columbia, by the way. We're practically neighbors!

  3. Super lists! I'd add gardening, dancing, and volunteering somewhere to your tech free list!

  4. Great Idea.. I can imagine your kids reaction..

  5. You are a brave woman, and I applaud you! I may have to try this with my kids.

  6. Great list. It's great that your list focuses on free/inexpensive alternatives to technology-based entertainment. I would probably add going to the library to get books to read and going to the park to play, hike or explore nature.

  7. Stopping by from YeahWrite 31dbbb.

Round robin story telling is a fun tech free idea.

  8. Great idea...but I don't think I'm brave enough to try it for myself, let alone impose it on the family. We do limit screen time on a daily basis, though.

For your list - how about miniature golf, indoor rock climbing or running through the sprinklers?

  9. I like these lists! I agree with Lorri--it's a great idea, but I don't think I could do it myself! But it's great to try, though--see how far we can get! :) Good luck!

  10. Good idea. When my people were little, I used to impose screen free days. Of course, back then we had two televisions, no cable or satellite, and one computer with dial up.

Thanks for stopping by Tales of a Pee Dee Mama. I love to hear from my friends!
