It's Back to School Time!

It's that time of year again - Back-to-School time! Since we are a homeschooling family, we do back to school homeschool style.

We will have our first day of school next Monday - August 4th. Some of the small people are more excited about that fact than others. I think I am the most excited of all of us. The first day of school holds so many possibilities: opportunities to have new beginnings, opportunities to learn new things (for the small people and for me), opportunities for me to correct mistakes I've made with small people in previous years LOL.

We have several beginning of the year traditions that we (or at least I) enjoy.

Wordless Wednesday - Soccer

Last weekend, The Boy played in a 5v5 soccer tournament. This is NOT The Boy, but one of his teammates playing keeper. I just loved how I caught the action of his dive.

National Junk Food Day

Today is National Junk Food Day. I'm the first person to admit - I have a junk food problem. Given a choice between eating something healthy and eating junk, I'll choose junk 95% of the time.

Unfortunately these food choices have had quite a negative impact on my health. In the past 14 years, I have put on a LOT of weight. I used to blame this on having had 5 children, but the youngest is 6 so I no longer have that as an excuse.

In addition to my weight,  my energy level is stinky! By mid-afternoon, I'm ready for the day to be over. Since most of my running around transporting small people to activities happens in the late afternoon and evening, this is a problem.

I've decided to make some changes.

Wordless Wednesday - Theater Camp

Ballerina attended Theater Camp last week. They learned a pirate sword fight performance as well as many other things. She's in the hot pink shirt.

*I apologize for the quality of the pictures. I forgot to take my camera so I only got pics on my phone.

For the past 3 weeks, I've been motivated by a desire to declutter. It started with the smallest girls' room, which was a disaster zone. So I went through and pulled out a TON of clothes and toys.

Then I decided to paint the twins' room. That led to more decluttering of girls' clothes and toys.

Once I got started, I didn't want to stop. I worked on my clothes. I found clothes in my closet that were 3 sizes smaller than what I currently wear! I worked on games and puzzles in the living room. I worked on books in the school room. I worked on kitchen cabinets.

I can't tell you how much better I feel with less clutter in the house. I'm nowhere near finished decluttering the entire house, but the progress I've made already makes me feel less stressed.

Wordless Wednesday - Water Fun

I took the girls to the local splash pad last week. It has a pirate theme and was a lot of fun.

Ragamuffin DVD - Review and Giveaway

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post. Only one entrant per mailing address, per giveaway.

If you have won the same prize on another blog, you are not eligible to win it again. Winner is subject to eligibility verification.

If you don't recognize the name Rich Mullins, you probably still know who he was. We often sing his song "Awesome God" in our church services. This song has been one of my favorites for a long time. The DVD Ragamuffin is based on the life of Rich Mullins, and I couldn't wait to watch it.

About the Movie:
RAGAMUFFIN is based on the life of Rich Mullins, a musical prodigy who rose to Christian music fame and fortune only to walk away and live on a Navajo reservation. An artistic genius, raised on a tree farm in Indiana by a callous father, Rich wrestled all of his life with the brokenness and crippling insecurity born of his childhood. A lover of Jesus and a rebel in the church, Rich refused to let his struggles with his own darkness tear him away from a God he was determined to love. As he struggled with success in Nashville and depression in Wichita, Rich desired most of all to live a life of honest and reckless faith amidst a culture of religion and conformity.

Blogging Schedule

This summer, blogging has been pretty hit and miss - more miss than hit. One thing I want to change as we enter the last half of the year is to get my thoughts here more often or more regularly.

The plan is to post on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and I'll give myself bonus points if there are posts on the weekends.

Bash and the Chicken Coop Caper - Review

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."

Back in September 2013, I had the opportunity to review the book Bash and the Pirate Pig by Burton Cole. Now there is a 2nd book in the Bash series, and I've been asked to review this book also. Ballerina and I really enjoyed the first book so I couldn't wait to read this one.

About Bash and the Chicken Coop Caper
Christian author Burton Cole and illustrator Tom Bancroft have brought Bash and his friends back for more colorful adventures. Their second novel, Bash and the Chicken Coop Caper, journeys through the wackiness that runs amok on Bash Hinglebobb's blizzard-blasted farm. There are mysterious footprints in the snow, vanishing mittens, misplaced eggs, and a pink, purple, and orange paisley sleeping bag on the move. Something is definitely amiss in the chicken coop.

Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day!

Today is the 4th of July. For most of the world, this is just another day. For those of us in the United States, it's a day that we get to celebrate our independence. A day we celebrate the freedoms fought for in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed us in the Constitution.

Unfortunately, I fear too many Americans have forgotten why we celebrate today. Our focus is on gathering with friends and family, cookouts, baseball games, and fireworks. None of those things are bad, and I'm not saying we shouldn't do those things to celebrate; those things shouldn't replace our remembrance of why today is a day of importance.

Wordless Wednesday - Chess

What was originally going to be a 1 month break during the A to Z challenge in April turned into a 3 month sabbatical from Wordless Wednesday. I am now back, hopefully to consistently have the linky go live at 8am EST each Wednesday.

The Boy has been teaching Sassy to play chess. Although she hasn't won a game, she understands the game and is having fun.
