In Freedom's Cause Review

In Freedom's Cause Audio CD Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review In Freedom's Cause: The Real Story of Wallace and Bruce, an audio theater CD set from Heirloom Audio Productions. This story is about William Wallace and Robert the Bruce who worked to bring freedom to Scotland and is adapted from G.A. Henty's book, In Freedom's Cause.

For this review, I received the In Freedom's Cause Single Package, which includes

  • In Freedom's Cause CD set
  • In Freedom's Cause Study Guide (a digital download)
  • In Freedom's Cause Soundtrack (an MP3 download)
  • Printable Copy of the Prayer of William Wallace (a digital download)
Once we received the CD set in the mail, the small people and I were excited about listening to it. That weekend we were going to take a trip to visit family so the 2+ hours of listening entertainment was a wonderful way to pass the time. We were all on the edge of our seats waiting to hear what would happen next. In fact, there were groans from the back seat when I had to pause it so that we could take a bathroom break on the trip! LOL

My small people are big fans of the movie Braveheart, which helped them to have a background of who William Wallace is, but In Freedom's Cause taught them so much more about him and Robert the Bruce. Plus, listening to the audio story, we got to feel like we were there in the middle of the battles and other events. Throughout In Freedom's Cause, various characters talk about the Psalter, emphasizing the importance of the Psalms in our lives. There is also a strong moral teaching in the story about standing up for what is right, regardless of how difficult it might be.

The quality of In Freedom's Cause is amazing. The soundtrack really helps add to the drama of the story. In addition, there is a professional cast providing the voices - Joanne Froggatt of Downton Abbey, Billy Boyd of Lord of the Rings, Skandar Keynes of Chronicles of Narnia, and James Cosmo of Braveheart are just a few.

One of my favorite things about the In Freedom's Cause package I received was the Study Guide. This 49-page guide contains 3 types of questions about the 37 tracks of the audio drama.
  • Listening Well - surface level questions that can be answered by simply listening to the story
  • Thinking Further - questions that have you draw conclusions, make inferences, or even look up more information about something mentioned in the story
  • Defining Words - vocabulary building
The study guide also includes background information about G.A. Henty, William Wallace, and Robert the Bruce; notes about the history of Scotland; and a Bible study section.

You can follow Heirloom Audio In Freedom's Cause on social media:

Heirloom Audio Productions are coming out with a new audio theater story soon. This one will be With Lee in Virginia, a story about the American Civil War. I can't wait to listen to this one!
