D.E.A.R. Monday - February 13

I've added some new books to my LONG TBR list and 1 to my short one. The one I share here is my short one that lists the 3 or 4 books at the top of the TBR list. Some of my homeschooling mama friends and I have decided to read through the list of books suggested by Susan Wise Bauer in The Well-Educated Mind. We're starting book 1 (Don Quixote) today.

I used to enjoy reading the classics, but I've developed swiss-cheese brain over the past years and now don't always seem to have the attention span needed to read them. I'm hoping that the fact that I have really begun reading a lot more non-fluff recently will help me with this. Do you enjoy the classics?

What I've Finished Reading:

One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven by Mark Cahill - What do you think the one thing you can't do in Heaven is? The answer, according to Cahill, is evangelize, which makes sense. There will be no need to lead people to the saving knowledge of Christ when we get there, but there is definitely a need in the world in which we currently reside. This book challenged me to take advantage of the opportunities God gives me each day to talk to people about their eternal future. It's definitely something I struggle with. This one definitely earned 5 smileys - 😊😊😊😊😊

In the Shadow of Lakecrest by Elizabeth Blackwell - This book was a fairly quick read; in fact, it never even made it to a mention in last week's D.E.A.R. Monday post because I started it later in the week. Set in the early 1900's, Kate Moore is looking move up from her state of poverty by marrying someone wealthy. When she lands Matthew Lemont, heir to the Lemont fortune, as her husband, she thought she was set as long as she hid her past. Little did she know that even the wealthy have their secrets. I really enjoyed the psychological nature of this one, so it gets 4 smileys - 😊😊😊😊
